Today was my birthday, and a pretty awesome birthday it turned out to be. The day started with opening the half a dozen cards my family gave me before I left the UK – very emotional, but a very nice start to the day.
Following that I was stood up at the front of the school assembly while the entire school sang happy birthday to me (all 4 verses!). I was oh-so kindly invited to make a speech, which I was completely unprepared for, and as I write I genuinely can’t remember what I blabbered on about for a minute or two.
I have received 11 cards (so far) from students and several small presents. The kitchen staff also sang to me at lunch time, and I’ve heard rumours of a cake, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that front.
I even splashed out some cash and treated myself to a new mosquito net – we know how to celebrate! (Okay, so I was getting on anyway, I just happened to pick it up today… still, I can pretend!)
All in all, a brilliant day 😀
