Reise Reise!

I’m in a Jeep, blasting along a dirt road in the Savannah, listening to Rammstein. My life may well be complete.

TG #26 – Fall Out of a Hammock

No photo for this one, but at about 10 last night* I woke up when my knee collided with the concrete of my bedroom floor. Funny now, but didn’t half hurt at the time!

TG #27 – Get Lost

Yesterday at about 3pm Harry and I got into a Jeep headed to Lethem to send emails, upload blog posts, sort out UCAS and buy a load of stuff. After 6+ hours on the back of the Jeep, we’d stopped to sling hammocks in Gawd-Knows-Where  because we were thoroughly lost in the Savannah and it … Continue reading »

Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Happy World Teachers’ Day! We never celebrated this back home, but here it’s a big thing. I’ve had no lessons today, but instead a general assembly with songs, dances, poems, moral talks, etc, a big lunch with all staff and students eating together, handmade cards from students and even presents! I’ve got a very fresh drink of coconut water (they just chop the top off a fresh coconut and stick a straw in), for once the insects are leaving me alone, … Continue reading »

House Guests

I’ve realised I’m becoming remarkably blasé about wildlife in my house… last night I found two lizards in my bathroom, this morning I spotted a decent sized spider watching me from my roof, and there’s a frog who lives in my shower (I call him Kermit). Oddly enough, none of these animals (or their many … Continue reading »

3 Weeks into Teaching

I’m writing this sat in the shade of a coconut tree, watching the sun drop behind the mountain range that surrounds most of Sand Creek. No, really. Jelly much?

Nearly 30?!

A student asked me today “sir, you have children?”. I said no, I don’t, and asked her how old she thought I was. A discussion between her and her two friends yielded “erm, sir is nearly 30?”. Nearly 30?!?! I’m 18!
