It’s the Small Things in Life…

This afternoon I was so happy I actually burst into song*… I got back from school to find that for the first time in nearly 3 weeks we have running water!

* Actually, singing is nothing new for me out here… I sing in the apartment, in the staff room, in lessons… I’m actually singing as I write this.

Birthday!

Today was my birthday, and a pretty awesome birthday it turned out to be. The day started with opening the half a dozen cards my family gave me before I left the UK – very emotional, but a very nice start to the day.

TG #16 – Wash in a River

As we’ve had no running water for the last 2-and-a-bit weeks, washing in the creek is actually my only real option. Still, was a good chance for some embarrassing photos: Read more »

Post From Home!

My first bit of post from home arrived today from my awesome Aunt Ruth – thank you Aunt R!!! Judging by the post mark it took 7½ weeks to get here, so the other letters that people assure me are en-route shouldn’t be more than a few more weeks away 😀

Other news – had my first chigger today… other volunteers (as well as Jess and possibly a few other people) will know what I mean :p T’was only a little’un, but still counts! 😉

Oh the Irony…

A few days I wrote letters home to my family updating them on everything going on, as well as assuring them I was in very good health out here. I also wrote a blog post to the same tune, tantamount to boasting about how healthy I’ve been…

So of course, I’ve spent the last 36 hours fiendishly ill – sickness, runs, headaches, dizziness, minor lapses in consciousness, hallucinations – altogether an unpleasant experience! I’m better now, and by the time this post ever gets online it’ll be a far-distant memory, so I’m not worried about worrying those back home by publishing it 🙂 The medic I spoke to suspects (and I presume he’s right) that it was just a vicious 24-hour bug that over-stayed its welcome a little.

Whatever doesn’t kill me… 😉

TG#41 – Gangnam Style! (Update)

Sadly no photos as it’s pitch black, but Harry and I just lead a very public, very loud performance of Gangnam Style, accompanied by about 40 students. Epic WIN!

Fundraiser Today

Today is a PTFA fundraising day for the primary and secondary schools… which means music, sports and lots of food (and no school)! As I write it’s about half past 1 and I’ve already had breakfast, lunch, a big chunk of roast chicken, a plate of chow mein and pork, a couple of donuts, a slice of cake and 2 bottles of cake! Sounds like gluttony (and it more or less is!) but these kinds of food are pretty rare treats, so I decided to indulge myself, and all for a good cause 🙂
