So it’s the 14th, I leave my home city of Coventry and travel to London in 10 days, and then fly to Guyana the day after that. That means 11 days until I leave to spend a year in Guyana – a whole year, 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes*, or about 31.5 million seconds. It’s all feeling very real, and I’m not feeling at all nervous yet. I’m excited. I applied for Project Trust over a year ago, went on selection about 10 months ago, and now it’s just 11 days until I get on a plane for the adventure of a lifetime.
I mean it when I say “adventure”. but this isn’t going to be a “year-long holiday” as some of my friends seem convinced… I’ll have a lot of fun and come back with some brilliant stories, but at the end of the day we’re going out there with a job to do and responsibilities to take on. Volunteers expected to work alongside full-time local teachers and lead classes of students that may only be younger than us by a few months, if at all. In fact, expectation will be even higher, as our A-Level awards are likely to make us (technically) better qualified than even some of the schools’ senior staff. I know I’m going to enjoy it, but I’d be lying if I said I think it’s going to be easy.

All that’s left for me to do now is buy a few last bits, pack, and then fly four and a half thousand miles around the world, so I’ll wrap this post up now. The next post on here will probably be once I’ve landed in Guyana and started my adventure.
